Working Principle of Small Household Freeze Dryer

Pre-freezing stage

Before freeze-drying begins, the material is placed in the drying chamber, and its temperature is rapidly reduced to below the eutectic point temperature using a refrigeration system, typically reaching -40°C or lower.

Sublimation stage

After the material is completely frozen, the system activates the vacuum pump, reducing the chamber pressure to 13.3 Pa or lower, entering a high vacuum state. At this point, the saturated vapor pressure of ice is greater than the partial pressure of water vapor in the environment, so the ice sublimates directly from a solid state into water vapor. The sublimated water vapor is rapidly captured by the condenser and condenses again into ice on the surface of the cold trap at approximately -50°C.

Drying stage

After the sublimation stage, a small amount of tightly bound moisture still remains in the material. At this time, the equipment appropriately increases the temperature of the drying chamber while maintaining a vacuum, allowing this residual moisture to further vaporize and be removed.
